Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
